THE BUILD NETWORK
THE BUILD NETWORK IS DEDICATED TO HELPING MIDSIZE COMPANIES SCALE.
Build comprises a network of editors, executive teams, and experts — all obsessed with working together to build adaptable, resilient organizations. To that end, we routinely scan the business landscape for smart, actionable ideas for building teams, honing leadership, and driving innovation. We then synthesize and curate these high-impact strategies for our members.
We also design and execute rigorous, relevant research that explores the key drivers of sustainable growth — the only statistically significant predictor of an organization’s future survival and continued growth.
THE BUILD PORTFOLIO
HOW BUILD ENGAGES THE MIDMARKET.
Build offers a rich menu of marketing, research, and content solutions designed specifically for C-suite executives.
The Sustained-Growth Digest: Our quarterly publication delivers evidence-based business strategies within a special section of Inc. magazine.
TheBuildNetwork.com: The Build website is updated daily with actionable ideas for building better teams, stronger leaders, and sustainable strategies.
Collaborative Content: With partners like Deloitte, we collaborate on cobranded magazine articles that demonstrate core business capabilities and thought leadership. With partners like Comcast and UPS, we create print and live-event content that highlights important research and key clients. Our work with Salesforce.com included two e-books, too.
Microsites: We set up private, custom websites that we regularly update with handpicked Build and third-party content. For Fidelity, we developed a gated leadership-development portal that comprises daily content, tools, and resources.
Mobile Apps: We build native mobile apps that deliver proprietary business content, drive client leads, and foster user loyalty. For GE Capital, we developed Access GE, an Android/iOS app that’s updated monthly with custom content.
The Genome Project: Sponsors of our groundbreaking research initiative — the first aimed at decoding the drivers of sustained growth — enjoy direct input into midmarket surveys and receive industry-specific findings that pinpoint high-potential clients. We’re excited to welcome the Principal Financial Group, a longtime print partner and event sponsor, as our premier Genome sponsor.
The Build 100: Partners sponsoring our forthcoming index of sustained-growth companies will receive differentiated marketing opportunities and proprietary research findings.

THE BUILD 100
OUR INDEX OF THE NATION’S MOST ADVANCED SUSTAINED-GROWTH FIRMS.
What is the only statistically significant predictor of a firm’s future success? It’s not location, industry, or huge bursts of growth. The only trait shared by the healthiest job creators is sustained growth — strategic advancement, repeated over and over again.
We’ve canvassed the business universe — 22 million organizations in all — to identify the most advanced sustained-growth companies in the nation: The Build 100. Aside from steady growth during each of the past five years, The Build 100 companies also exhibit extraordinary degrees of adaptability, thriving in good times and bad. In the months and years to come, we will actively interview, survey, and explore The Build 100 to better understand how they nurture sustained growth and resilience from within.
THE BUILD GENOME PROJECT
DECODING THE DRIVERS OF SUSTAINED GROWTH.
The Genome Project is an ambitious, first-of-its-kind research initiative designed to expand our knowledge of how profitable growth is sustained. The top-performing businesses tend to make different decisions and execute strategy more consistently than other companies, thereby developing capabilities and practices that allow them to prosper even amid uncertainty. Our goal is to statistically determine which of these behaviors drive sustained growth and help our audience replicate them.
The Genome Project hinges on substantive research and interviews with the leaders of the sustained-growth exemplars in The Build 100. It also benefits from the insights of Fortune 500 partners that are committed to the midmarket and economic-development agencies that devise evidence-based strategies to foster growth, job generation, and wealth creation.
THE BUILD TEAM
THE ARCHITECTS OF MODERN BUSINESS RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS.
For more than three decades, the creators of Build reported on and fostered innovation through the pages of Inc. magazine. During that time, they shepherded the birth of entrepreneurialism in America and established the Inc. 500, the world’s premiere ranking of emerging companies that has spawned important research and analysis, including Amar Bhide’s book, The Origin and Evolution of New Business; the Ascent of America’s High-Growth Companies, a Kauffman Foundation initiative; and author/professor Michael Porter’s Inner City 100. They have helped to define the new economy and introduce generations to research that mapped the early-stage ecosystem.
These are the people responsible for building the research foundation for much of what we know about start-ups and early-stage ventures. Now they’re out to do it all over again, only better and even bigger this time.
